how do expectations affect me
Expectations are constantly put though out your life, and though out every single activity you preform day to day, from your teacher at school, to your mother at home and especially from your coach in my case soccer. Every single day expectations are put though out the soccer practice to achieve a final goal, it could be a technique or to learn a new way on doing certain activity or movement. Expectations could be constant barriers though out your daily life and could complicate the accomplishment of your goal. Some of the expectations put to me daily during soccer practices are constant barriers or difficulties sine some expectations are not the easiest things to accomplished, but are the best way to improve because of the constant pressure and the requirements they ask for.
A couple of weeks ago on a sunny hot Saturday, I was asked to come to practice that same day so that could go over some aspects and refine some techniques on my air game and my goalkeeper skills. I arrived to school at 10am ready to practice and to give my best and leave every effort on the field. I was tired and hungry from the night before and from the fact I didn’t had the chance to have breakfast. I walked up to the field and started warming up, there where other goalkeepers also practicing there, I was the oldest since 9th grade has the oldest goalkeeper. While warming up my coach Francisco; the goalkeeper coach pulled me aside from the rest of the goalkeepers. While the rest of them kept stretching and warming up for the practice that was about to start.
We took a walk around the field to continue with the warm up, he wanted to talk to me about an expectation he wanted to work along with me, to improve in certain aspects are to be well prepared and ready for Asomex that is coming up in a couple of weeks. He told he had been talking along with the other coaches in areas in which I could improve and to have the best performance in both game and practices. What his goal or expectation he wanted for me to accomplished was to dominate completely air game, what I mean by air game is that learn how to “fly” and get the ball in the air this I commonly use basically for every ball that is not rolling though the ground. He told me I only had a couple of days to dominated since games were coming up and then asomex and the head coach Miguel has asking for it.
I was very enthusiastic about this idea, but nervous and I felt pressure at the same time. I knew this goal set to me was mainly set to for my benefit and the benefit of the team. I clearly knew there was going to be a lot of suffering since every fall would hurt, but it had to be done. We started with practice and went right into this; we started with some basics and the correct way of doing it. Time went by, days went by, for about a week we kept practicing over the same things. I knew there were expectations to be accomplished from both the head coach and Francisco. After a lot of hours put into this I finally felt I was doing it write and that the goal was accomplished.
After a reasonable talk with my coach and an expectation that was planted for me to accomplished in a certain amount of the time, for the best of me but especially for the best of the team. When this expectation was shown to me I felt nervous, but enthusiastic to start bring the best for the team. In general I really like when expectations are established for be since this asks the best of me and brings the best effort of me since I know I need to satisfied some on else but specially satisfied my self with the individual improvement.
